As such, we’ll discuss the changes we need to be prepared individually, as teams, and as organizations as a whole.

Building Out Of the Box Business Solutions

Sometimes living in the box can be sexy too. SharePoint 2010 offers a powerful and flexible platform that can be quickly adopted to automate business processes without the need to write code. In this presentation TekDog’s own Jason Keller will walk through a client business problem and how TekDog solved the problem using native SharePoint functionality. This presentation will walk through the business problem and how to develop a quick solution in SharePoint using List, Libraries and Views. If your company is on the fence about going to the cloud you’re far from alone. For most companies the cloud is still a very new architectural option. So why would a company choose to deploy its applications to the cloud? And why Azure? We’ll discuss why KnowledgeWorks chose Windows Azure for its Community Impact Report Card (CIRC) application. In this presentation we will provide an overview of the Azure platform, discuss the business case for KnowledgeWork’s CIRC application, and walk through the decision process for considering the cloud as an option. We’ll also briefly demo the overall process of configuring, building and deploying an application in Azure. And finally we’ll discuss lessons learned and some best practices to consider when using Windows Azure.

During this presentation TekDog’s Jason Keller will provide a live demo of how to automate business processes in SharePoint 2010 leveraging Nintex Workflow 2010. This is a must attend session if you are looking to save time and money while automating existing processes within SharePoint 2010. In this presentation Jason will walk you through the benefits of automating process on the SharePoint platform by extending SharePoint workflow using Nintex Workflow 2010. This presentation will take the concepts of Mad Lib to create an interactive and entertaining presentation that encourages audience participation and will leave the audience in stiches. This presentation can be adopted to last between 60 and 90 minutes.
Windows Azure from the ground up

It’s time to accept the hype – “the cloud” is a component of applications going forward. This will be a code-heavy session were we’ll walk through building and deploying a Windows Azure application. What new tools will you need? What new skills will you need? What are the best resources to keep at the end of your mouse? In this session we’ll discuss all these points and more. We will see how easy it is to build on existing skillsets to develop an application that takes advantage of several of the services available on the Windows Azure platform.
Office365 – How the Cloud Makes IT Easy and Why That’s Difficult

It’s a great story: your business desperately needs email and collaboration to be successful, but let’s face it: Exchange and SharePoint are far from easy to implement or run. To the rescue come Microsoft’s Office365 offering, allowing you to buy that critical email and collaboration functionality as a utility, just like you do electricity or water, and you don’t have to have an IT geek to pull it off! But as easy as Office365 makes this, it’s still not a piece of cake to pull it off and fall in love with what you have. Because it’s such a simple and compelling story, there’s a tendency to gloss over, ignore, or fail to allow for some minor issues and limitations that can unfortunately add up to irritation, frustration, or even worse, a loss of productivity and profit.
Building a Robust Development Infrastructure for Windows Azure Products

We will focus on the available tooling to simulate a cloud environment on development PCs, the establishment of staging/test environments, configuration & database management, and the automation of Azure product deployments.

Size Does Matter! The Architectural Approach to the Right Size SharePoint Implementation

Although we always hear, “Bigger is better”, that doesn’t need to be the case for your SharePoint farm(s). Not having the right size of architecture can cost money or not meet the needs of the users. In this advanced session, we’ll examine the approach of properly architecting and sizing a SharePoint 2010 implementation for your organization, enterprise, or clients. We’ll discuss the proper planning for WFEs, primarily based on requests per second (RPS) and properly sizing the database layer and load, primarily based on IOPS. Time permitting, we’ll delve in to the more popular service applications and how to properly sizing them for your farm(s).
The cloud and security: Do they mix?

The cloud is a great new force in computing. A lot of companies are betting their future on it, and many more are dipping their toes in the water. There are a lot of concerns about the cloud, and if it is secure. In this session Brian will discuss what security in the cloud means, and how you can be both secure and in the cloud. He might bust some myths and burst some bubbles in the process.
The hybrid windows Azure application

The Windows Azure platform is a fairly feature rich environment. You can run your web applications there. You can run your data processing applications (services) there. But you don’t have to run your entire application there. You can run part of your application in “the cloud”, and part of your application on premise – giving you the best of both worlds. But why would you not put everything in the cloud? Perhaps you don’t need the massive computing power Windows Azure provides, but you would like a cheap an easily accessible data store. Maybe your application just isn’t ready, yet, to be run in the cloud. Whatever the reason, in this session you will learn the basics for creating a hybrid application which leverages various features of Windows Azure. You will see how to leverage Windows Azure’s rich features and APIs to extend your application to new heights.

Unleash the Power of SQL Server 2012 Business Intelligence in SharePoint 2010

With the recent release of Microsoft SQL Server 2012, we will examine the enhancements to the Business Intelligence capabilities in SharePoint Server 2010 SP1. In this presentation, we’ll examine the changes to PowerPivot for SharePoint, the new Power View (previously codenamed ‘Project Crescent’) functionality, as well as architectural and capacity planning changes necessary in utilizing SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services as a full-blown, native SharePoint 2010 Service Application (SA).

SharePoint Online as an Extranet: Is It Hot or Not?

“Hey, this SharePoint thing is great! Why can’t I use it to share my documents at our partners at Company X?” If your users haven’t already asked you the Extranet Question, there’s a good chance you’re going to be hearing it in the near future. But the problem is that Extranets are tough to pull off, for so many reasons. They present a lot of security risks, the networking and security considerations add a lot of complexity to your SharePoint farm, and then there’ s the costs for the hardware, networking, and licensing involved. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a nice, simple solution out there that let you stop worrying about all those problems, give your users the extranet they need, and give your boss a simple line item to budget for? And wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to line up the hardware, software, configuration, networking, or security for any of it? Sounds dreamy, doesn’t it?
